Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani placed orders with Chopard, Rolex, Eterna, Piaget, Concord and Rado; his successor Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani continued the tradition with Longines and a Tudor edition bearing the official State of Qatar emblem. Each dial carries the Amiri crest or the Emir's cypher, and none were ever sold commercially — they were state gifts.

The Story Behind the Amiri Crest
Qatar's presentation-watch tradition is tightly dated. The Eterna Amiri editions of 1981, the Concord of 1980 for Prince Khalifa bin Hamad, the Rolex Day-Date of 1980 and the Chopard Special Edition of 1989 all belong to the reign of Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. The Rado Diastar Official Release of 1989 and the Longines and Distinctive Official editions of 1995 mark the transition toward Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Production numbers were tiny and distribution was restricted to the Diwan, senior officers and foreign guests, so examples that survive with an original crest dial and paperwork are rare. An Amiri edition is a watch commissioned by the Amiri Diwan — the ruler’s court — carrying the state crest or the Emir’s personal cypher on the dial.
